Online Stock Trading: Swing Trading Stocks on the US Stock Market

The DJIA kissed its 50 day simple ma and held. Maybe we'll have a traditional Thanksgiving rally after all. Look for some sell off after the holiday until the 2nd week of December. That happens as fund managers clear out their worst performing holdings, those stocks that are losers for the calendar year and add bright stars to their funds before year end. That way they can report how smart they were to hold more year gainers and fewer losers. It's called window dressing and the usual result is year to date losers get cheaper and gainers rally more in December.

Sun Microsystems (JAVA) may benefit from Vista's unpopularity. Hey, I run Kubuntu. Who needs Vista? Sun's price action set a relative bottom a few months ago and been rallying since. Yes, I knew this before but was somehow blind. Perhaps because I forgot to change the symbol from SUNW to JAVA until recently. Gosh, did I really forget that? No matter, I'm accumulating Sun Microsystems (JAVA) now. I just love tight consolidation triangles and corresponding rallies!

For some time now, I have been quietly wondering if the two year period leading into the 2008 election year was going to be a bull market. Duh, well, I guess so! The markets are inching out new all time highs amid a "wall of worry". I am now thinking this could be the greatest rally leading into an election the civilized world has ever seen. Well, just as soon as every one can sell their rental and spec homes that is. I figure the money coming out of the housing industry will be dumped into the financial market arena just as fast as home sales will allow. The end of the housing bubble is upon us. A new stock market boom has arrived!

I might be too impatient at times, maybe like today when I noticed TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) was not really gaining in price like I had expected. Since when does a stock perform to my expectations anyway? Maybe I'm a bit nervous about the general market tone. Maybe I don't have a clue what is happening. But I do know closing a position with a small profit is better than waiting for a loss. So this morning, feeling the need to do something, I closed my position in TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) for a small gain. I'm thinking it will test the bottom of the channel and I can buy it back again then.

About a week ago I mentioned TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) was formng a flat top triangle after holding near the channel bottom. Trading activity has been in a very narrow range over the past couple days, pressing the top of the triangle. I would not be surprised to see TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) advance and head for the upper channel boundary soon. Lucky for me I acquired a nice position over the past week.

Compton Petroleum Corp. (CMZ) shot out of the gate like a wild race horse today, quickly kissing its 200 day moving average. Obviously there is bottom feeding interest in Compton Petroleum Corp. (CMZ) By day's end, the price settled back down near the lower Bollinger Band. I used that opportunity to buy more shares of this oversold thoroughbred. Labor Day weekend is coming up and energy prices will begin to soar again. Energy stocks usually do well coming out of summer as I recall.

Over the past week, TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) appears to be tracing out a flat top triangle which could well be interpreted as a bullish pattern. Pring's KST indicator is just turning to bullish as well. With these indications and the current market shift toward a bullish sentiment, I feel confident TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) could advance quickly over the next week or two. Let's keep an eye on TriQuint Semiconductor next week and identify an exit point.

Compton Petroleum Corp. (CMZ) is kissing the lower Bollinger Band on what looks like a one-day reversal in the overall market. There are real bargains to be found in just about every sector as people panic over the real estate market woes. This is the year before the election, so things should be turning positive soon. I've kept an eye on Compton for a good entry. Today looks like a good day to me!

Warren Resources (WRES) was starting to form a broadening reverse triangle, so rather than risk giving up nice gains, I closed the position below yesterdays bottom. I won't complain. Nor will my banker!

Made a nice profit closing Gigamedia (GIGM) short position today. I'm thinking Gigamedia might retest 13.5 prior to testing 9, so I took the panic selling to advantage and covered my short sale position. This position was against me most of the year since I first sold it short. I missed an exit in the first week and held fast to my convictions. Today, patience paid off handsomely.

HOKU Scientific (HOKU) earnings fell short of analysts expectations. Gee, no surprise here. What a good short sale call that was a few days ago.
